Split Fiction, one of 2025’s most acclaimed video games, is reportedly being adapted into a film.

Variety reports that Story Kitchen, the entertainment company behind the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, has started gathering talent for a Split Fiction movie. They’re looking for writers, a director, and actors to create a package they can shop around to big Hollywood studios in what sources call a “bidding war.”

This isn’t the first time Hollywood has come knocking on Hazelight Studios’ door. Back in 2022, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s production company announced plans to turn the studio’s previous hit, It Takes Two, into a movie. That project landed at Amazon, but we haven’t heard much about it since.

What’s pretty interesting here is how Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares feels about these adaptations. In an interview with Dexerto before Split Fiction’s release, Fares didn’t mince words about Hollywood’s interest.

To be honest… Hollywood, there’s so much talk,” Fares said. “They talk so much, I’m telling you.”

He even mentioned receiving a completed script for the It Takes Two film but admitted he hadn’t bothered to read it. “If it happens, I’ll be like ‘Oh, that’s fun.’ But I don’t really care,” Fares said, making it clear his passion is creating games, not movie deals.

Split Fiction has been killing it since its March 6 release. The game sold more than two million copies in just its first week, with numbers still climbing. Critics love it too, praising its creative gameplay and storytelling approach.

The game follows two authors who get trapped in the fictional worlds they created, featuring cool split-screen combat, platforming challenges, and different abilities for each character. It mixes fantasy and sci-fi elements in a co-op experience that players have really connected with.

Story Kitchen specializes in turning games and other properties into films and TV shows. Besides Sonic, they’re also behind Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft series. They are also involved in other upcoming adaptation projects like Just Cause, Sifu, Sleeping Dogs, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Vampire Survivors.

As of now, representatives from Hazelight Studios and Story Kitchen haven’t commented on the reported adaptation. Meanwhile, Hazelight isn’t slowing down – Fares confirmed earlier this week that the studio is already working on their next game.
