Sony’s action RPG Stellar Blade has been a solid performer as a PlayStation 5 exclusive since its launch earlier this year. However, the game is about to reach a much wider audience, as developer Shift Up has announced plans to bring Stellar Blade to PC in 2025.
In a recent quarterly earnings report (Q3 of FY 2024), the Korean studio revealed that Stellar Blade’s “sales have remained steady even as the initial surge has calmed” on the PS5. However, the team is now setting its sights on the PC market, citing the growing influence of platforms like Steam and the global success of the recently launched Black Myth: Wukong as key factors behind their decision.
“Given recent trends like Steam’s growing presence in the AAA games market and the global success of Black Myth: Wukong, we are expecting the PC version to perform even better than the console version,” Shift Up said when discussing their plans for the PC port.
Black Myth: Wukong, the acclaimed action RPG from Chinese developer Game Science, set a new record for concurrent players in a single-player game on Steam upon its launch. This impressive achievement has clearly piqued Shift Up’s interest, as they believe Stellar Blade can emulate that level of success on the PC platform.
Stellar Blade, which has sold over 1 million copies on the PS5 as of June, will not only reach a much larger global audience on PC, but it will also open the door to a wealth of player-created mods and customizations.
If we go with the recent rumor that Sony’s exclusivity with Shift Up lasts only for one year, then the game could potentially be released on PC or other platforms anytime after April 26, 2025.
Nevertheless, Shift Up is also continuing to support the current console version, with a crossover DLC featuring Nier: Automata content set to launch on November 20th, alongside a new photo mode and other updates.
While Stellar Blade may not be a clear Game of the Year contender for some, the game has been widely praised for its slick action, beautiful visuals, and old-school charm. The upcoming PC port represents an exciting next step for the title, as Shift Up looks to capitalize on the growing popularity of AAA games on platforms like Steam.
Beyond the Stellar Blade, the developer has also revealed that further details about their upcoming AAA RPG, Project Witches, slated for release in 2027, will be shared in the first half of 2025.
