Sony‘s popular PlayStation Studios game Helldivers 2 is set to be adapted into a movie. The announcement was made during Sony’s CES 2025 press conference, where Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, shared the exciting news. He confirmed that PlayStation Productions is collaborating with Sony Pictures to bring this game to the big screen. While further details remain under wraps, the announcement has already stirred excitement among fans.
Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 draws inspiration from the cult classic sci-fi film Starship Troopers. The game depicts soldiers defending a fascist regime called Super Earth from alien threats like Automatons and Terminids, all while promoting the satirical concept of “Managed Democracy.”
The game’s unique storyline and engaging gameplay have contributed to its immense popularity. With 12 million copies sold within 12 weeks, it has become the fastest-selling title from PlayStation Studios. By November, the game had reached over 15 million players and maintained a top 5 position for the highest-earning game of 2024 in the U.S. market, according to Circana’s December reports.
This news follows the recent success of the game’s Illuminate update, which introduced a new faction for players to battle, further revitalizing interest in the title.
In addition to Helldivers 2, Sony announced adaptations of other major titles during the same event. Horizon Zero Dawn is being developed into a film by Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions. The movie is in its early stages, and Qizilbash teased an epic portrayal of Aloy’s origin story set in a world of giant machines.
Meanwhile, Ghost of Tsushima is getting an anime adaptation slated for release on Crunchyroll in 2027.
This news adds to the growing list of PlayStation titles transitioning to different media formats, demonstrating Sony’s commitment to expanding its franchises.
