Sega has announced a major achievement for its latest Sonic title, Sonic X Shadow Generations, which has officially surpassed 2 million units sold across all platforms.
Released on October 25, 2024, The game debuted with over 1 million sales within the first day of its release, now adding another million after 2 months. According to a press release, the sales figures include both physical and digital copies across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The game received generally favorable reviews from critics. It was praised for its engaging gameplay, nostalgic value, and the inclusion of both Classic and Modern Sonic experiences. The game holds a Metascore of 82 on Metacritic, based on 85 critic reviews.
Sonic X Shadow Generations offers players an exciting mix of classic and modern Sonic gameplay, featuring both 2D and 3D levels. Alongside the remastered content from Sonic Generations, the game introduces an entirely new campaign centered on Shadow the Hedgehog. However, Sega has yet to announce the next mainline Sonic game. For now, PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers can enjoy Sonic Frontiers at no additional cost on PS5, keeping fans engaged while awaiting future developments.
