Sega’s iconic Sonic the Hedgehog characters are getting a superhero makeover, thanks to an exciting collaboration with DC Comics. This partnership, revealed during Batman’s 85th birthday celebration, promises to merge two beloved universes. On September 21, Sega teased the crossover with a short video showing Shadow the Hedgehog appearing in response to the bat-signal, hinting at the intriguing mash-up.
The details were unveiled during Sonic Central, a virtual fan event held on Tuesday. Starting in 2025, Sonic characters will take on the roles of famous DC superheroes. Sonic will step into the shoes of the Flash, Shadow will become Batman, Amy Rose will embody Wonder Woman, and Tails will transform into Cyborg.
This collaboration kicks off with a five-issue DC Comics series slated for release in 2025. The comic launch will also be accompanied by themed merchandise, including clothing and toys, extending the excitement to fans of all ages.
But that’s not all for Sonic fans. October will bring Sonic x Shadow Generations, a game that highlights Shadow the Hedgehog as a main character for the second time. The release will also include a remaster of Sonic Generations and will be available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Additional projects are on the horizon. A mobile party game, Sonic Rumble, is coming soon, while Roblox enthusiasts can battle Neo Metal Sonic in Sonic Speed Simulator. Fans can also look forward to an animated web series, Chao Tales, showcasing the beloved Chao characters. For collectors, new Lego sets featuring Sonic characters are in development. Even Topgolf locations are joining in, allowing players to select Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy Rose as virtual golf balls.
