The top-down factory-building game Shapez 2 has sold more than 450,000 copies on Steam since its Early Access release in August 2024.

The indie title, developed by German studio tobspr Games, has become one of the most successful factory-building games on the platform. With an impressive 98% positive review rating, players have warmly embraced this geometric puzzle-solving experience.

Shapez 2 builds on the success of its predecessor, which sold over 850,000 copies and attracted more than 10 million players to its web demo. The sequel takes the original concept to new heights with upgraded 3D visuals set in a space environment.

The game focuses on automation without the pressure of enemies or resource limitations. Players extract geometric shapes like circles, squares, and stars, then process them through cutting, rotating, stacking, and painting to meet specific goals. As challenges become more complex, players must build increasingly sophisticated factories across multiple asteroids connected by space trains.

What makes Shapez 2 special is its relaxed approach to the factory genre,” said Tobias Springer, founder of tobspr Games. “Buildings are free, and players can redesign or delete anything without penalty, creating a stress-free yet deeply engaging puzzle experience.”

Within just three days of its Early Access launch, Shapez 2 sold over 150,000 copies, quickly reaching 250,000 by the end of August 2024. This impressive performance tripled the developer’s initial projection of 90,000 copies for the first month.

Looking ahead, tobspr Games has announced “Dimension,” the largest update yet for Shapez 2, scheduled for release on June 2, 2025. This major content update will introduce multi-tiered 3D platforms, allowing players to expand their factories vertically. The update will also revamp the train system with a complete cosmetic overhaul and add various quality-of-life improvements.

Currently, Shapez 2 is available on Steam with a 25% discount until April 24. Players can purchase the base game for $18.74 or opt for the “Supporter” edition at $24.49, which includes additional cosmetic decorations and 40 extra minutes of the game’s electronic soundtrack.

The game has received financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action as part of the government’s computer games funding initiative.
