Sea of Stars Achieves Milestone of 6 Million Players, New DLC Announced

Sea of Stars

Sabotage Studio’s Sea of Stars has hit a major milestone, with over 6 million players enjoying the critically acclaimed RPG since its launch in August 2023. The announcement comes a week after the release of the Dawn of Equinox update, which introduced significant features, including local co-op for up to three players, revamped combat mechanics, and an enhanced prologue.

A Modern Homage to Classic RPGs

Sea of Stars takes inspiration from beloved 1990s RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and Final Fantasy, blending nostalgic elements with modern design. Its turn-based combat, engaging storytelling, and beautifully rendered pixel art have earned widespread praise. The game’s soundtrack, composed by Eric W. Brown and featuring contributions from legendary composer Yasunori Mitsuda, further elevates the experience.

From Digital to Physical Success

Initially released digitally, Sea of Stars quickly became a fan favorite, selling over 100,000 copies within its first 24 hours. Its popularity led to the release of a physical edition, which included special collectibles like a retro-inspired game manual and a double-sided poster. By December 2023, it had reached an impressive 4 million players.

Expanding the Universe with New DLC

Looking ahead, Sabotage Studio is preparing for the release of the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC in 2025. This expansion will take players to Horloge, a magical clockwork world under threat from a cursed carnival. Protagonists Valere and Zale will explore new environments, master fresh combat techniques, and face unique puzzles and enemies. The DLC will also introduce a new playable character, the Artificer, expanding the game’s roster.

The new soundtrack will again feature Eric W. Brown and guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda, promising to deliver more memorable music.

Sea of Stars is available on a wide range of platforms, including PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s also accessible on Xbox Game Pass.
