Scopely and CD Projekt Team Up for a New Game—What to Expect

Scopely and CD Projekt

Scopely has entered a strategic partnership with CD Projekt to develop a new game based on one of the Polish studio’s intellectual properties. The collaboration was revealed during CD Projekt’s recent earnings call, where joint CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed the partnership but did not provide details about the game or its release timeline.

CD Projekt is known for its popular franchises, including The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. The company is currently developing The Witcher 4, while also working on multiple other projects within its established franchises.

Scopely, a big name in mobile gaming, has plenty of experience adapting well-known franchises for mobile platforms. The company has worked on hits like Monopoly Go, Star Trek Fleet Command, and Marvel Strike Force. Most recently, they acquired Niantic’s games division for $3.5 billion, adding Pokémon GO, Monster Hunter Now, and Pikmin Bloom to its portfolio.

This partnership between CD Projekt and Scopely opens up two major possibilities. On one hand, Scopely may be looking to expand further into PC and console gaming, as hinted by Savvy Games Group CEO Brian Ward, the parent company behind Scopely. While Scopely already has PC titles like Stumble Guys and Star Trek Fleet Command, this collaboration could signal a bigger push into the AAA gaming space. On the other hand, Scopely may stick to its roots and work on a mobile adaptation of one of CD Projekt’s beloved IPs.

CD Projekt itself has also shown interest in the mobile market. During its FY2023 earnings call, CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed that the studio was open to licensing its major franchises to third-party developers for mobile games. While no concrete plans were announced, Nowakowski made it clear that CD Projekt was exploring opportunities and would share more details “when the time comes.”

Beyond this partnership, CD Projekt provided updates on its ongoing projects. The Witcher 4 has moved into full production, meanwhile, Project Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, is nearing the end of its concept phase. The studio is also developing Project Hadar, a new IP that is currently in its early conceptual stages.

Financially, CD Projekt reported solid results for 2024, with consolidated net sales reaching 985 million PLN ($253.7 million). Although this marks a 20% decline from the previous year, the company still recorded a net profit of 470 million PLN ($121.1 million). The performance was largely driven by continued sales of Cyberpunk 2077, which has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide.
