Indie game Schedule 1 is making waves on Steam, hitting a peak of 142,759 concurrent players just two days after launching in early access on March 24.
This crime-simulation game has overtaken some major industry giants in player count and secured a spot in Steam’s top 10 most-played games.
Developed by Tyler’s Video Game Studio (TVGS), the game takes inspiration from Grand Theft Auto and Satisfactory, giving players a unique drug cartel management experience in a first-person, open-world setting.
According to SteamBD, Schedule 1 even outpaced big names like Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege on its peak day, landing as the ninth most-played game on the platform. The mix of resource management, automation mechanics, and co-op multiplayer seems to have struck a chord with gamers.
What’s Driving the Hype?
So, what makes Schedule 1 so popular? At its core, the game offers an engaging mix of strategy and action. Players start from scratch, manufacturing and distributing illicit substances while growing their criminal empire. Along the way, they can hire dealers, customize their operations, and evade law enforcement. The co-op multiplayer mode adds another layer of fun, allowing friends to build their empire together.
Early reception on Steam has been “overwhelmingly positive” with 98% of over 9,000 reviews being positive. Players are praising its addictive gameplay, engaging mechanics, and entertaining co-op features.
Future Updates & Potential Console Release
Right now, Schedule 1 is only available on PC through Steam early access. There’s no official word on a console release yet, but given its massive success, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a PlayStation or Xbox port down the line.
The developer, Tyler, has already shared plans for upcoming updates, including new drug types, expanded customization options, parkour mechanics, and the ability to hire drivers for faster deliveries. With these additions in the pipeline, it’s clear that the game has a long-term roadmap to keep players engaged.
Whether it can maintain its momentum remains to be seen, but for now, it’s one of the biggest indie hits of 2025. If you’re interested, the game is currently available on Steam for $16.99, with a free demo available for those who want to try it out first.
