AGBO, the production company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo, has appointed veteran gaming executive Pete Wanat as president of interactive technology. The move signals AGBO’s deeper push into the gaming venture, expanding beyond its successful film and television projects.

Wanat brings extensive experience in game development, having previously served as vice president at Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group and, more recently, at mobile game developer Nifty Games. His new role at AGBO is expected to drive the integration of gaming and interactive technology within the company’s storytelling approach.

“Pete’s unparalleled expertise and deep understanding of game development and interactive platforms will allow us to seamlessly integrate our characters and stories into new, unforgettable projects,” AGBO partner Donald Mustard told Hollywood Reporter. He emphasized that Wanat’s leadership will help “create expansive universes that span film, television, and gaming,” offering audiences more ways to engage with AGBO’s narratives.

Founded in 2017 while the Russo brothers were directing Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, AGBO has steadily expanded its scope in gaming and emerging technologies. In 2022, they secured a $400 million minority stake investment from global video game maker Nexon Co., reinforcing its commitment to interactive entertainment.

Furthermore, in 2023, the company brought in Fortnite co-creator Donald Mustard and former MGM Studios executive Chris Brearton. Additionally, AGBO recently hired Dr. Dominic Hughes to explore the use of artificial intelligence in storytelling.

Despite these developments, AGBO has yet to reveal specific details but Wanat highlighted AGBO’s vision for merging “original intellectual properties” with interactive entertainment. “AGBO is at the forefront of empowering artists to innovate by incorporating their original IP into new forms of interactive entertainment,” he said. This statement led to speculation that the company might be developing interactive experiences based on its existing IP portfolio which includes the Citadel franchise for Prime Video, The Gray Man, and Extraction for Netflix.

In his new role, Wanat will report to AGBO chief creative officer Angela Russo-Otstot.
