A recent rumor claiming Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) had been delayed to 2026 has sparked heated debates within the gaming community. However, reliable sources now confirm that the game is “still on track” for its Fall 2025 release, dispelling concerns that players would have to wait an additional year.
The rumor originated from a tweet by GTA community member LIAM, who claimed that the game’s release had been pushed to early or mid-2026. According to him, the information came from “multiple developers at two Rockstar Games offices“. This fueled widespread speculation that the game would miss its Fall 2025 target.
Additionally, LIAM shared details about the PC version of the game predicting that the PC port is planned for release 12 to 18 months after the console launch.
However, respected gaming journalist from Bloomberg, Jason Schreier, known for accurately reporting on Rockstar’s projects, has denied these claims. Schreier tweeted that six different Rockstar Games employees told him they had not heard of any internal delay for GTA VI.
Schreier added that while there’s always a possibility that the release could be pushed back due to the game’s massive scope, there has been no official word of a delay yet.
Further, Schreier noted that Rockstar’s executives would take at least a month before informing employees of any game delay. However, no such event happened, making this rumor “nonsense.”
In February, Schreier reported that Rockstar was requiring all employees to work in-office full-time for the remainder of GTA VI’s development, aiming to accelerate development and increase security as GTA VI enters the final stages of development. At that time, the game was targeting an early 2025 release. Since then, it has been pushed to Fall 2025, but no further delays have been confirmed.
How LIAM responded:
In response to the backlash, Liam remained firm in defending his information. He tweeted,
“Look, if I’ve been foul played here—and that’s a BIG if—I apologize. You all know I wouldn’t tweet anything unless I was very confident. Nothing malicious or spread of misinformation was intended. Let’s just wait it out now and see if any other news outlets come forward.”
Adding a bit of humor to the situation, he quipped, “Cutting ties with those ‘employees’. On the plus side, at least we won’t have to wait another year. I’ll take the L with this.”
Despite admitting the possibility of misinformation, Liam didn’t hold back from criticizing those who mocked him for his tweet. He sarcastically remarked, “When I say that in quotes, by the way, I’m mocking how people say they don’t exist.”
He then went on to express his frustrations with the gaming community, “At this point, I’m confident most of the Rockstar Games community is full of literal 8-year-olds lmao.”
For now, Rockstar Games has not given any statement or confirmed the delay. We probably won’t get any until October or November when T2 Interactive releases its second-quarter results for this fiscal year.
