Capcom has officially announced that its Resident Evil 4 remake has sold over 9 million copies since its release in March 2023. In less than two years, the survival-horror classic has earned its place among Capcom’s top ten best-selling games, surpassing titles like Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 6.
Industry analyst and Resident Evil expert Alex Aniel highlighted that Resident Evil 4 Remake is now the fastest-selling installment in the franchise’s history. In its eighth quarter (October to December 2024), the game sold over 1 million copies—a feat unmatched by previous entries. For comparison, Resident Evil Village sold 500,000 units in the same period, while Resident Evil 7 managed 400,000.
The remake’s impressive sales momentum reflects its widespread acclaim. With a Metacritic score of 93/100, it ranks as the third-best-reviewed game in the series, trailing only the original Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Critics and players alike praised the game for its modern visuals, refined gameplay mechanics, and faithful adaptation of the original storyline.

Capcom also expanded the game’s reach by launching it on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. However, these platforms contributed minimally to overall sales, generating only $208,000 in revenue from approximately 7,000 purchases, as reported by MobileGamer.biz.
Looking ahead, Capcom has confirmed its plans to continue developing Resident Evil remakes. In December 2023, Resident Evil 4 Remake director Yasuhiro Anpo expressed enthusiasm for revisiting classic titles, stating that modern remakes allow new players to experience iconic stories.
Rumors also suggest that Resident Evil 9 is in active development and may feature Leon S. Kennedy as the protagonist. While Capcom has yet to make an official announcement, anticipation remains high for the franchise’s future.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
