Resident Evil 3 Remake has officially joined the growing list of console-to-iPhone ports that just aren’t clicking with mobile players.

Despite Apple’s heavy promotion and a free-to-start model, the game has underperformed since launching on March 19. According to Mobilegamer.biz via Appmagic data, it’s only pulled in 115,000 downloads and less than $50,000 in revenue across its first three weeks. A separate report from Appfigures paints an even bleaker picture—under 54,000 installs and just $22,000 in earnings.

Like its predecessor Resident Evil 2 Remake, which needed six weeks to scrape past $100,000 in revenue on iOS, Resident Evil 3 is struggling to justify the effort behind its mobile port. That’s despite being exclusive to high-end models like the iPhone 15 Pro and featuring flashy support from Apple across the App Store and social media.

The game uses a “free-to-start” model, where it lets players try a portion for free, then charges nearly 66% off limited time price$9.99 for the full experience which soon jumps to $30 after April 16. The same strategy was used for all of its predecessor ports.

There’s also a $1.99 DLC to unlock all in-game rewards—but even that hasn’t been enough to drive meaningful sales.

Apple’s long-running goal of turning iPhones into legitimate gaming machines continues to face roadblocks. Even with console-level hardware and a marketing push, players just don’t seem eager to buy years-old AAA console games on their phones—especially when locked behind device exclusivity and premium pricing.

And Resident Evil 3 isn’t alone. Other major ports like VillageRE4Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage have all been underwhelmed. Meanwhile, ports like No Man’s Sky and Assassin’s Creed Shadows have not yet launched on the platform despite the earlier announcements.

At this point, the question is less about power—and more about whether the audience is really there for this kind of experience. So far, the answer looks like a firm “not yet.”
