Capcom has just released the Resident Evil 3 remake for iPhone, iPad, and Mac through the App Store on March 18. Players can now experience this horror survival game on their Apple devices, bringing Raccoon City’s zombie nightmare to the palm of their hands.

The game follows S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine as she desperately tries to escape Raccoon City during a viral outbreak. What makes this game particularly terrifying is that players are constantly hunted by a powerful creature called Nemesis, creating an intense feeling of being pursued throughout the game.

According to Capcom, this remake uses their advanced RE ENGINE technology to deliver stunning visuals and action-packed gameplay that takes full advantage of modern hardware capabilities. The graphics and details are significantly improved compared to the original version, making the horrifying experience even more immersive.

Apple users can try a free portion of the game before deciding to purchase the full version. For those interested in buying, Capcom is offering a special 67% discount until April 16, 2025. This drops the price to approximately $9.99 in the US (£8.29 in the UK), which is much cheaper than the regular $24.99 price tag.

The game requires specific hardware to run properly. It’s compatible with all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro models, and iPads or Macs that have an M1 chip or newer. As reported by Capcom, the app is quite large at about 31GB, so users will need at least twice that amount of free storage space for installation.

A convenient feature of this release is cross-progression support, which allows players to continue their game across different Apple devices. This means you can start playing on your iPhone, then pick up where you left off on your iPad or Mac, as long as they’re all linked to the same Apple account.

Mobile players will appreciate the customizable touch controls designed for on-the-go gaming. Capcom has also added a new Auto Fire feature specifically for iPhone and iPad users, which automatically fires weapons after briefly aiming at enemies. For those who prefer traditional gaming, controller support is available across all compatible devices.

The storyline centers around mysterious disappearances in Raccoon City and the involvement of the pharmaceutical company Umbrella with their biological weapon, the T-Virus. Jill Valentine, after discovering the truth about Umbrella’s connection to these incidents, finds herself fighting for survival as the virus spreads throughout the city. Unknown to her, a powerful creature has been sent specifically to eliminate her.

Resident Evil 3 joins other titles from the series already available on Apple platforms, including Village, 7 Biohazard, 2 Remake, and 4 Remake. However, these ports haven’t matched their console or PC success. According to data from Appmagic, the recent RE2 remake has generated just over $100,000 in in-app purchase earnings since its December 10, 2024 launch. Industry watchers are hoping RE3 might break this pattern, though the challenges remain significant for AAA games seeking success in the mobile market.
