In 2025, PUBG Esports is undergoing a significant transformation, placing greater emphasis on a third-person perspective (TPP) tournament series in addition to its traditional first-person (FPP) competitions. This announcement comes after the game’s remarkable success in 2024, which saw a peak viewership of 510,000 during PNC 2024 and over 3 million hours watched.
Major Changes and New Initiatives
The most significant addition is the PUBG Players Tour (PPT), a dedicated TPP tournament series designed to bridge the gap between casual players and professional competition. This new format acknowledges that while most players prefer TPP in regular gameplay, competitive PUBG has historically focused on FPP matches.
The PPT will feature three distinct tiers:
1. PUBG Players Scrim
- Daily tournaments open to all players
- Hosted across four major regions: Americas, Asia-Pacific, Asia, and Europe/Middle East/Africa
- Serves as the entry point for aspiring professionals
2. PUBG Players Cup
- Weekly finals featuring top performers from scrims
- Includes online streaming coverage
- Offers prize pools for winners
- Crowns regional TPP champions
3. PUBG Players Masters
- Elite-level competition combining top amateur teams with invited professionals
- Represents the highest tier of TPP competitive play
Traditional Competitive Structure Remains
The established Road to PGC system will continue alongside the new TPP format, featuring:
- Regional tournaments awarding PGC points
- Six major global events including PGS, PNC, and PGC
- Participation in the 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Growth and Evolution
PUBG Esports has come a long way since its first Global Invitational in 2018. The organization successfully adapted to challenges like the global pandemic by introducing online competitions through the PUBG Continental Series. Recent viewership numbers suggest growing interest, with PNC 2024 achieving the highest engagement since 2018.
