As we dive into the heat of summer, PlayStation Plus is bringing the heat with its July 2024 lineup of free games.
Starting July 2, 2024, PlayStation Plus members can add three exciting games to their libraries:
- Borderlands 3 (PS4, PS5)
- NHL 24 (PS4, PS5)
- Among Us (PS4, PS5)
These games will be available for download until August 6, 2024, giving members plenty of time to claim and enjoy them.
Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3, released in 2019, is the fourth main entry in the popular action role-playing first-person shooter series.
Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, the game builds on the franchise’s signature loot-shooter gameplay, featuring a vast array of procedurally generated weapons and four new playable Vault Hunter characters.
The story follows these Vault Hunters as they work with the Crimson Raiders to stop the villainous Calypso Twins from harnessing the power of alien Vaults across the galaxy.
The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its refined gameplay and weapon variety, though some critics noted a lack of innovation and technical issues at launch.
Borderlands 3 was a commercial success, shipping over 5 million copies in its first five days and becoming the fastest-selling game in 2K’s history.
It introduced new features such as expanded skill trees, additional planets to explore beyond Pandora, and cross-platform play.
The game also features online and split-screen co-op, allowing you to team up with friends regardless of level or mission progress.
NHL 24
NHL 24, the 33rd installment in EA Sports’ ice hockey simulation series, was released on October 6, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The game features significant gameplay overhauls from its predecessor, including new total control skill moves, an exhaust engine, goalie fatigue, an improved passing system, and physics-based contact.
The introduction of the Exhaust Engine adds a new layer of strategy to the game, simulating the fatigue and pressure of real hockey matches. Players will need to manage their team’s energy levels to capitalize on crucial moments.
Notable additions include the return of body checking players into benches and broken glass, as well as full crossplay support for Hockey Ultimate Team and World of Chel modes.
Despite these improvements, NHL 24 received “mixed or average” reviews from critics, with Metacritic scores of 71/100 for PlayStation 5 and 72/100 for Xbox Series X/S.
While the game showed slight improvement over its predecessor, many reviewers criticized the lack of substantial changes and the unsuccessful implementation of new features.
Some critics felt the franchise had become stale, with modes described as “standard as ever.” User scores on Metacritic were even less favorable, indicating that the game was generally poorly received by players.
Among Us
Among Us is a popular online multiplayer social deduction game developed by Innersloth, released in 2018 but gaining massive popularity in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The game takes place in a space-themed setting where players are assigned roles as either Crewmates or Impostors.
Crewmates must complete tasks and identify the Impostors, while Impostors attempt to sabotage the mission and eliminate Crewmates without being detected.
The game’s success led to its release on multiple platforms, including PCs, mobile devices, and various gaming consoles.
The game’s surge in popularity was largely driven by content creators and streamers, resulting in widespread memes, fan art, and cultural impact.
Among Us has received generally positive reviews for its engaging gameplay and social elements, though some critics noted technical issues and a lack of innovation.
The game’s success has led to numerous updates, including new maps, roles, and game modes, as well as collaborations with other franchises.
Its influence has extended beyond gaming, inspiring merchandise, adaptations, and even academic research in artificial intelligence.

In addition to the three free games, PlayStation Plus members can look forward to exclusive in-game rewards for the popular action RPG Genshin Impact.
Starting July 16, 2024, members can claim a special bundle containing:

Beyond the free games, PlayStation Plus is offering additional benefits to its members:
- Sony Pictures Core App Movie Credits: Members who purchase a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership can receive movie credits for the Sony Pictures Core app. This offer starts on June 26, 2024, and includes access to a vast library of films, including recent releases and classics.
Last Chance for June’s Games
Those members who don’t take advantage of June’s FREE game have until July 1 to add the following game to their libraries:
- SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake,
- AEW Fight Forever
- Streets of Rage 4
