The annual PlayStation Blog Game of the Year Awards celebrated the standout games and studios that defined the year. These awards followed Geoff Keighley’s 2024 Game Awards, where fans were thrilled with announcements like The Witcher 4, the return of Capcom classics Onimusha and Okami, and Naughty Dog’s ambitious new project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Amidst these exciting reveals, Sony’s own Astro Bot emerged victorious, taking home the coveted Game of the Year trophy.
This year saw PlayStation shine with remarkable titles, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, Silent Hill 2, and the highly acclaimed multiplayer hit Helldivers 2. Other games, like Stellar Blade and Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin, also garnered praise for their engaging gameplay and artistic quality. Adding to the excitement, Sony introduced the PlayStation 5 Pro—a mid-generation console refresh offering improved storage capacity and enhanced graphics. Despite some criticism over its steep price, the PS5 Pro delivered notable upgrades that appealed to hardcore gamers.
As 2024 comes to a close, over 1.6 million fans participated in voting across 19 categories in the PlayStation Blog Game of the Year Awards. Astro Bot, already crowned Game of the Year at The Game Awards, continued its winning streak by securing the Best PlayStation 5 Game award. Team Asobi, the creative minds behind Astro Bot, was named Studio of the Year. Additionally, Stellar Blade’s protagonist Eve was honored with Best New Character, Silent Hill 2 earned Best Story, and Black Myth: Wukong impressed fans as the Best Graphical Showcase.

Helldivers 2’s triumph in the Best Multiplayer Experience category came as no surprise, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree stood out as the Best Expansion. Meanwhile, indie gem Balatro, a poker-inspired roguelike, earned the Best Independent Game title.
Sucker Punch’s upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei, emerged as the Most Anticipated Game for 2025, surpassing other highly awaited titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Notably, Grand Theft Auto 6 was absent from this category, as the same title cannot win two years consecutively.
As the year wraps up, PlayStation fans eagerly await 2025’s gaming lineup. Titles like Ghost of Yotei and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are expected to dominate the spotlight. While their exact release dates remain unclear, anticipation continues to build for these blockbuster titles.
2024 has been a defining year for PlayStation, and with a promising lineup ahead, the excitement among fans shows no signs of slowing down.
