Phoenix Labs has announced that its free-to-play action game “Dauntless” will shut down on May 29, 2025.

The game will stop receiving updates and content immediately, and players will no longer be able to access it after the shutdown date.

Dauntless is shutting down on May 29, 2025. Dauntless will receive no additional content or updates. Dauntless will no longer be available to play on and after May 29th, 2025 at 11:45pm PST,” the developer stated in a brief message on social media, adding, “Thanks to all for being a part of the Dauntless journey.

This announcement comes just weeks after Phoenix Labs laid off the majority of its staff. The company has been facing significant challenges since being acquired by crypto company Forte in 2023.

Dauntless, which offered players a faster-paced alternative to the popular Monster Hunter series, initially received positive feedback when it launched into PC early access in May 2018. However, the game struggled to maintain its early success following its wider release a year later.

The road to shutdown began last May when Phoenix Labs announced it was canceling all projects except Dauntless and Fae Farm. This first round of cuts reportedly affected around 140 employees.

While the fate of Dauntless is now clear, Phoenix Labs has not yet revealed plans for Fae Farm.

According to company statements, Dauntless had reached over 6 million players at its peak. The game launched fully in September 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, later expanding to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
