PGL DOTA 2 Wallachia: What’s in Store for 2025?

Esports tournament organizer PGL has officially confirmed the return of its popular PGL DOTA 2 Wallachia tournament series in 2025.

Following the success of the first two seasons held in May and October 2024, PGL has announced three additional seasons for the upcoming year in Wallachia, Romania.

  • Season 1: March 2025 (Qualifiers in January)
  • Season 2: April 2025 (Qualifiers in February)
  • Season 3: November 2025 (Qualifiers in September)

These tournaments will continue the Wallachia legacy, which PGL has described as a “tremendous success” in its previous iterations.

Each season will feature 16 teams, including 10 directly invited teams and 6 that qualify through regional tournaments.

These teams will compete for a generous prize pool of $1 million (~£766,000) per season, making it a highly competitive and rewarding event for top-level DOTA 2 teams around the world.

The inaugural season, which occurred from May 10-19, was won by Team Spirit, while the latest Season 2, spanning from October 4-13, 2024, was claimed by Heroic with a 3-1 victory over Team Falcons.

In addition to the prize pool, PGL has introduced a ‘Hospitality Support’ package, valued at $450,000 (~£345,000) per event, for all teams participating in each event. With this support, each team will receive the following benefits:

  • Eight roundtrip flight tickets per team
  • Four-star (minimum) hotel accommodation for eight people
  • Food, beverages, and snacks
  • A dedicated practice room for six people during the event

PGL CEO Silviu Stroie expressed his excitement about the future of the Wallachia series, stating,

“As the Wallachia series grows, we are committed to delivering an even more engaging and dynamic experience for the fans. We are grateful for the incredible support and enthusiasm from the community, and we look forward to raising the bar even higher in 2025.”

Similarly, PGL has announced plans to host three DOTA 2 events in 2026, each featuring a prize pool of $1 million. The events are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Season 1: March 6-15, 2026
  • Season 2: April 17-26, 2026
  • Season 3: Nov. 6-15, 2026

This announcement comes alongside PGL’s broader plans for 2025 and 2026, which include high-profile events for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) in cities like Buenos Aires, Belgrade, and Barcelona.
