MY.GAMES has announced that the popular CRPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker has reached a significant milestone, selling over 2 million copies worldwide. On January 23, Knights Peak Interactive, a subsidiary of MY.GAMES, revealed the milestone in a press release. This achievement comes approximately six and a half years after its initial release. Back in August 2021, its previous publisher, Koch Media (now Plaion), announced that the game had surpassed 1 million sales.

Owlcat Games’ Absence From the Announcement

Surprisingly, the press release makes no mention of Pathfinder: Kingmaker’s original developer, Owlcat Games. The studio was founded in 2016 as a subsidiary of MY.GAMES but became independent in 2019. Despite this, MY.GAMES continued to be a key partner and even invested in the studio through its MGVC (formerly MRGV) division in December 2019.

In 2022, Owlcat disclosed that it no longer received royalties from Pathfinder: Kingmaker sales after its departure from MY.GAMES. The publishing rights remained with MY.GAMES, effectively severing Owlcat’s financial ties to the game. The original Pathfinder: Kingmaker was initially published by Deep Silver, a division of Plaion, but the publisher was changed to MY.GAMES on May 20, 2024, and later to Knights Peak on June 28.

Knights Peak’s Expanding Portfolio

Knights Peak Interactive, launched by MY.GAMES in 2023, focuses on publishing premium PC and console games. Its portfolio includes titles like Blast Brigade and Nikoderiko, with upcoming releases such as Mandragora and Tempest Rising. The company is led by former Plaion executives, including global brand and marketing director Mario Gerhold and creative director Jan-Eric Lauble.

Owlcat Games’ Continued Success

Despite losing financial ties to Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Owlcat Games has remained active in the RPG space. The studio collaborated with Pathfinder owner Paizo to release Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous in 2021, which raised $2 million on Kickstarter and sold over 1 million copies in under two years. Last year, Owlcat expanded its publishing operations by acquiring full control of META Publishing’s portfolio, which includes games like Train Valley and Biped.

Most recently, Owlcat released Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, which became its fastest-selling game, reaching 1 million copies sold within a year of launch.
