Palworld, the unexpected hit of this year, has made its way to the PlayStation 5.
With the game already selling over 25 million copies in its initial launch on PC and Xbox in January 2024, its arrival on PS5 could breathe new life into this “Pokémon-inspired” adventure.
Developed by the indie studio, Pocketpair, the game became an instant hit for its unique blends of open-world exploration, crafting, and creature collection.
In fact, Palworld once held the second-highest number of concurrent players on Steam, reaching an astonishing 2.1 million concurrent players just a week after its release, surpassing even games like Counter-Strike 2. However, with time, those numbers have dropped drastically to just over 20,000 active players right now, per SteamDB data.
With PlayStation 5’s vast user base of over 50 million players, Pocketpair is poised to expand Palworld’s reach. The PS5 version introduces a few tweaks, such as optimized controller UI integration, but the core mechanics remain unchanged, ensuring the same engaging experience fans have come to love.
The arrival of Palworld on PS5 couldn’t have come at a more crucial time when the company faced one of the biggest legal battles of its life. A few days ago Nintendo, the Pokémon Company, filed a lawsuit against pocketpair for patent infringement. Currently, nobody knows what was infringed except Nintendo, but this battle will cost PocketPair significantly. So many think that the revenue generated from this new platform launch could help finance their legal defense.
Nevertheless, Palworld is now available on the PlayStation Store for $30, the same price as the Steam version. All the features from the PC and Xbox versions are included.
