Palworld, the unexpected hit of 2024 and often described as “Pokémon with guns,” is about to get even bigger.
Developer Pocketpair has joined forces with Sony Music Entertainment and its subsidiary Aniplex to create a new joint venture called Palworld Entertainment.
This joint venture aims to grow the Palworld universe beyond gaming. Let’s dive into the details.
What’s the Goal of This Partnership?
According to an official statement by Pocketpair, this strategic alliance aims to continue Palworld’s “global development” and “expand the IP through various channels,” including licensing opportunities and merchandise.
Palworld’s initial success, selling 6 million copies in four days and reaching 25 million players by February’s end, provides a strong foundation for growth. Thus, the developer is aiming to take advantage of this popularity.
As a first step, exclusive Palworld merchandise will be available on Aniplex’s U.S. and Shanghai websites.
The partnership will also have a presence at Bilibili World 2024, a major Chinese video game convention happening from July 12 to 14.
Furthermore, we could see a wide range of Palworld-themed products and experiences in the future.
Could We See a Palworld Anime in the Future?
Given Aniplex’s reputation as a famed anime maker, many fans are speculating about the possibility of a Palworld anime series. Aniplex has been behind some of the biggest anime titles of the past few decades, including:
- Bleach
- Demon Slayer
- The Fate series
- Both Fullmetal Alchemist series
With Pocketpair previously teasing the idea of the Palworld comics on social media, this partnership could be the first step towards making that a reality.
What’s Next for Palworld?
With this new partnership involving Sony (PlayStation owner), many fans are wondering if a PlayStation port is in the works.
Pocketpair’s CEO has previously (in a Bloomberg interview) teased the possibility of a PlayStation version, and this collaboration could be the first step towards making that a reality.
Besides that, the game recently received its first major update – The Sakurajima Update in June 2024 which introduced:
- A new island
- New Pals
- New buildings
- An increased level cap
This update breathed new life into the game, bringing back players who may have drifted away.
