Pacific Drive, the debut game from Ironwood Studios, has reached a major milestone, selling one million copies across PC and PlayStation within its first year of release.
The survival game’s unique blend of driving mechanics and roguelike elements has struck a chord with players worldwide. Despite being delayed from its initial 2023 release window to 2024, the extra development time proved beneficial for the small studio, as evidenced by the game’s commercial success.
Beyond sales, Pacific Drive has earned industry-wide recognition. It was nominated for Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2024, ultimately losing to Balatro, but securing the Best Music trophy.
The accolades continue, with the game now nominated for Best Debut Game at the 25th Game Developers Choice Awards (March 19) and Best Design at the Independent Games Festival (IGF) Awards (March 26). Additionally, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has included Pacific Drive in its 2025 BAFTA Games Awards Longlist, with winners to be announced on April 8.
Excitingly, Pacific Drive is also set to receive a television adaptation. In December, Ironwood Studios announced a deal with the production company behind horror hits like M3GAN and Malignant, bringing the game’s eerie atmosphere to the small screen.
Game critics have particularly praised Pacific Drive’s fresh approach to the survival genre. Its innovative combination of driving mechanics with roguelike elements has helped it stand out in an increasingly competitive indie game market. The game’s engaging storyline and challenging gameplay have contributed to its positive reception among players.
Looking ahead, Ironwood Studios has hinted at continued support for the game. As per recent developer statements, players can expect the “biggest update yet,” though specific details have not yet been revealed.
