Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption will finally be available on Windows PC starting October 29, 2024. This long-anticipated release comes after recent re-releases of the iconic 2010 open-world Western for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Like these versions, the PC port will include the fan-favorite spinoff, Undead Nightmare, a zombie-themed expansion. The game will be available through the Rockstar Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Rockstar collaborated with developer Double Eleven to bring Red Dead Redemption to PC. The port is packed with enhancements, including native 4K resolution at up to 144 Hz refresh rates. It also supports ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) aspect ratios, HDR10, and customizable keyboard and mouse controls. Players can also take advantage of Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling, and Nvidia DLSS frame generation for improved graphical performance.
The game narrative follows John Marston, a former outlaw forced by the U.S. government to track down his old gang members. Set against the backdrop of the fading American frontier, the story offers a rich and emotional experience. Its expansion, Undead Nightmare, takes a more playful turn, adding a zombie apocalypse to the Western setting.
Originally released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption became a massive success, earning critical acclaim and selling over 23 million copies worldwide. Rockstar followed it up with Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, which has shipped more than 65 million units, solidifying its status as one of the best-selling games of all time. The sequel was ported to PC in 2019, and now its predecessor is making its way to the platform, complete with modern upgrades for today’s gamers.
