Nintendo is set to discontinue its Gold Points rewards program across the Nintendo Switch eShop and official website starting March 25, 2025.
This long-running loyalty program has been a popular feature among Nintendo customers, allowing them to earn points on purchases and use them for future discounts.
After March 25, 2025, players will no longer be able to earn Gold Points from “new purchases” on the eShop or official website.
However, there’s some good news for users who already have Gold Points in their accounts – these points will remain valid for 12 months from their earning date, expiring at the end of the respective calendar month.
For those planning to make pre-orders, Nintendo has outlined specific conditions. According to the company’s official notice, any pre-orders made up to and including March 24, 2025, will still qualify for Gold Points, regardless of when the game actually releases or when the payment is processed. However, this benefit comes with a catch – if the pre-order is cancelled or the payment fails, the points won’t be awarded.
Physical game enthusiasts can still benefit from the program under certain conditions. As per the announcement, Gold Points can be earned by registering physical games that were released before March 24, 2025. European users have a more generous timeframe, with the ability to earn points up to two years from a game’s original release date, while users in other regions have a one-year window.
The decision coincides with Nintendo’s recent unveiling of the Switch 2 console, suggesting a possible transition to a new rewards system for the next generation of Nintendo hardware.
In related news, Nintendo has also clarified its policy regarding Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. The company has explicitly stated that these vouchers, which offer discounted pricing on select Nintendo titles for Nintendo Switch Online members, cannot be used for Switch 2 exclusive games.
