Next God of War Game May Feature a Younger Kratos

The next installment in the God of War series may take players back in time to explore a younger version of Kratos, according to new reports. While earlier rumors suggested the game might take place in Ancient Egypt, new information hinting at a return to Greece instead.

Industry insider Tom Henderson recently shared this details on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, stating that the upcoming God of War title “isn’t set in Egypt, it’s actually set in Greece, and it’s gonna be a younger Kratos this time.” While Henderson underlined that this information is still unconfirmed, it has sparked speculation among fans about what this could mean for the series.

Previously, reports from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman suggested that Sony had begun casting Middle Eastern actors for an undisclosed AAA game, leading to assumptions that the next God of War installment would focus on Egyptian mythology. Given that Santa Monica Studio once considered an Egyptian setting for the 2018 reboot, this theory seemed plausible. However, Henderson’s latest claims contradict those expectations, suggesting that the story will instead revisit Kratos’ earlier years in Greece.

If true, this wouldn’t be the first time God of War has explored Kratos’ past. The PSP title Chains of Olympus delved into the events between God of War 2 and God of War 3, offering a deeper look at his journey before the mainline games. Additionally, the God of War: Fallen God comic by Dark Horse depicted Kratos’ journey to Egypt, providing another potential time frame and storyline for a prequel.

As of now, Santa Monica Studio has not officially confirmed any details about the next God of War project. Reports suggest the studio is currently developing a new intellectual property, which could mean a longer wait for the next chapter in Kratos’ story. Until an official announcement is made, fans should treat these rumors with caution.
