South Korean Game Studio Raided Over Alleged Theft of Development Materials

South Korean studio Dynamis One was raided by police after being accused of stealing development materials from gaming giant Nexon.

The Seoul police searched Dynamis One’s headquarters on February 24th, looking for evidence related to something called ‘MX Blade‘ – a secret Nexon project that apparently had its materials leaked.

What makes this extra spicy? Dynamis One was founded by former Nexon employees in 2024, with CEO Park Byeong-rim previously leading development on Nexon’s Blue Archive.

According to ChosunBiz, police believe Dynamis One’s team might have taken key information about MX Blade while they were still Nexon employees.

This isn’t Dynamis One’s first controversy either. Last year, the studio revealed its first game, Project KV, but stopped development just eight days later as people noticed similarities between Project KV and Blue Archive. The graphics and character designs were suspiciously alike…

Nexon isn’t taking this lightly – they’re accusing Park and his team of violating the Unfair Competition Prevention Act, calling it a “serious crime that undermines the foundations of the game development environment.”

This case bears similarities to another recent dispute involving Nexon. In 2021, Nexon accused Ironmace founder Ju-Hyun Choi, another former employee, of using leaked source code to create a game called Dark and Darker.

Earlier this month, the Seoul Central District Court cleared Ironmace of copyright infringement but ordered the studio to pay 8.5 billion won (about $5.87 million) to Nexon for trade secret infringement.

The police investigation is now focusing on whether Dynamis One actually used the allegedly leaked data in their development process.
