Rumor Suggests MultiVersus Season 5 Could Mark the End of the Game

MultiVersus

The future of Warner Bros.‘ free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus appears uncertain as recent reports suggest its upcoming fifth season could mark the end of its run.

According to reliable MultiVersus leaker AusilMV, Season 5 represents a crucial moment for the game’s survival, potentially serving as a “last-ditch effort” to revive its declining player base. “[MultiVersus] Season 5 may be the final season of MultiVersus, depending on how it performs,” the leaker stated.

MultiVersus’ Decline Over Time

The game’s journey has been a rollercoaster since its launch nearly three years ago. Despite an impressive initial success with over 153,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, MultiVersus experienced a dramatic 99% decline in its player count within just a few months.

In an attempt to address these challenges, Warner Bros. Games made a bold decision in June 2023, temporarily removing the game from all platforms following what they referred to as an “open beta” period.

The game made its comeback in May 2024 with significant improvements and updates, but it faced the same fate as before. On the new official launch day [May 27th], the game peaked at over 113,000 players but saw a 90% drop a month later.

Now, it peaks at around 600 players in the last 24 hours of writing as per SteamDB, despite new content released in Season 4, which included new fighters, new modes such as Arena Mode, a new map, and an event during Christmas time.

The upcoming Season 5, scheduled to begin in early February 2025, could prove decisive for the game’s future. The development team at Player First Games faces the challenging task of not only attracting new players but also ensuring they remain engaged with the content.

Both Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have yet to respond rumours.
