Developer Wrong Organ and publisher CRITICAL REFLEX have officially announced that their psychological horror game, Mouthwashing, has sold over 300,000 copies just three months after its release in September 2024.
In a heartfelt statement, the developers expressed their gratitude: “We never imagined reaching this milestone. Selling over 300,000 copies feels surreal, and we owe it all to the passionate players who embraced our vision. Thank you for making this possible.”
Mouthwashing is a first-person psychological horror game set aboard the freighter spaceship Tulpar. The story follows five crew members stranded in deep space after a mysterious crash. Players explore the eerie corridors of the ship, interact with the crew through meaningful dialogues, and solve complex puzzles to uncover the truth behind the disaster. What sets Mouthwashing apart is its non-linear storytelling, allowing players to experience events from multiple perspectives across different timelines. Combined with its haunting PSX-inspired visuals and deeply atmospheric soundtrack, the game creates an unforgettable experience.
Critics have widely praised Mouthwashing for its narrative depth and chilling atmosphere. On Metacritic, the game holds an impressive Critic Score of 86/100 and a User Score of 7.8/10, with reviewers highlighting its psychological tension and visual design. IGN described it as “grimy, uncomfortable, and incredibly compelling.”
Over on OpenCritic, Mouthwashing boasts a Top Critic Average of 83/100, with a 94% recommendation rate. Critics have applauded the game’s ability to explore human vulnerability in high-stress situations, solidifying its place among the standout horror titles of the year.

The success of Mouthwashing marks another triumph for indie game development, showcasing how smaller studios can deliver impactful storytelling and memorable experiences. Wrong Organ, previously known for their 2022 title How Fish Is Made, continues to demonstrate their skill in crafting unique and thought-provoking horror games.
