NetEase Announces $400,000 Marvel Rivals Tournament Series

NetEase has revealed plans for the largest Marvel Rivals tournament to date, with a total prize pool of $400,000. “The Marvel Rivals Invitational” will feature teams from around the world competing in four regional tournaments.

According to the announcement, each regional tournament will offer a $100,000 prize pool, with competitions spanning over a five-week period. The series kicks off with the Oceanic tournament, followed by Asia, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and finally North America.

Fans can watch all the action on the official Marvel Rivals Twitch and YouTube channels. The schedule for each region is as follows:

  • Oceania: February 15-16
  • Asia: February 22-23
  • EMEA: February 28-March 2, March 7-9
  • North America: March 14-16, March 21-23

NetEase and Marvel have been careful about rushing into a full-fledged esports scene. Many industry observers remember how the hasty creation of the Overwatch League shortly after the game’s release caused more problems than benefits. Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen stated back in January that the team wanted to create a game that appeals to both casual and competitive players.

Despite this measured approach, there’s been significant interest in competitive Marvel Rivals. Popular streamer Shroud mentioned earlier this year that he was considering starting an organization specifically for Marvel Rivals. He later confirmed these plans after reaching a $150,000 donation goal during a charity stream. Reports indicate that Shroud also met with Sentinels CEO Rob Moore, who expressed openness to Shroud running a Marvel Rivals team under the Sentinels brand.
