Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the remastered version of the cult-classic action game, has achieved an impressive milestone. According to Dragami Games, the title has sold over 200,000 copies globally since its launch on September 12, 2024.

Released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, the game sold first 100,000 copies within the debut week. In less than four months, another 100,000 copies were added to the tally.

This strong market performance prompted Dragami Games’ parent company, Extreme, to revise its financial projections upward significantly. The company now anticipates revenue of ¥11.65 billion ($73.7 million) for the fiscal year ending March 2025, a notable increase from their initial forecast of ¥11 billion ($69.6 million).

The remaster’s success builds upon the foundation laid by the original 2012 release, which was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Kadokawa Games. That version achieved lifetime sales of 1.24 million copies, establishing itself as Grasshopper’s most successful title to date.

Following a corporate restructuring in May 2022, Kadokawa Games transformed into Dragami Games under the leadership of Yoshimi Yasuda, who had served as executive producer for the original game. This transition included securing valuable IP rights for Lollipop Chainsaw and other prominent titles like Demon Gaze and God Wars.

While the remaster has received positive feedback on Steam, holding a “Very Positive” 87% rating from over 1,500 user reviews, it has struggled with low player counts. Its peak concurrent players on Steam reached 989, with only 30–50 daily players now, possibly due to initial technical issues and a relatively high price of $40–$44.

Critically, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has received mixed reviews for modern consoles. On Metacritic, it holds a score of 68 for PlayStation 5 and 58 for Xbox Series X/S. Some praised its nostalgic charm and improvements over the original, while others criticized its slow pacing by overly long stages and gimmicky minigames.
