League of Legends players have the highest average IQ among gamers. That’s not me saying; it’s based on a study conducted by WhichBingo, the UK-based bingo and casino company.
The study involved 1,002 gamers and was designed by a team of psychologists who administered a remote IQ test to assess cognitive abilities in four key areas: verbal communication, mathematics, logic, and visual reasoning.
The gamers were asked about the games they primarily play and their preferred gaming platform to determine these results.
The findings were quite interesting. League of Legends, a globally popular strategy game, ranked first, with its players averaging an impressive IQ of 120.4. Not far behind was Black Myth: Wukong, a strong contender for the Game of the Year, whose players averaged an IQ of 119.8. Baldur’s Gate 3 took third place with an average IQ of 117.9, while Counter-Strike and Elden Ring rounded out the top five.
The middle of the leaderboard featured a mix of games, with players of Battlefield 2042 scoring 105.8 and Escape from Tarkov at 104.2. Meanwhile, Genshin Impact players had an average IQ of 106.8, and Deadlock sat slightly higher at 108.7. At the lower end, Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 players recorded an IQ of 95.3, just above Rocket League at 90.8 and FC 24/FIFA 23 at 89.8.
The study found a notable trend: strategy and role-playing games are generally associated with higher IQ scores. This may explain why games like League of Legends and Black Myth: Wukong, which require complex decision-making and strategy, top the list. On the other hand, fast-paced action games like Call of Duty and Rocket League recorded lower scores.
Here are the top 20 games with the highest average IQs:

Interestingly, the study also highlighted a gender difference, with female gamers recording a higher average IQ of 107.9 compared to 105.8 for male gamers, breaking common stereotypes about gaming intelligence.
This study offers a fascinating look at how different games and platforms may relate to cognitive abilities. What do you think of the results? Did your favorite game make the list? Feel free to share your thoughts!
