Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has reached 2 million units sold within just two weeks of its release, according to an announcement from Warhorse Studios. This significant milestone represents a massive success for both the developer and its parent company, Embracer Group.
The medieval role-playing game has clearly resonated with players, as evidenced by its impressive concurrent player count on Steam, which peaked at 256,206 players last week. This number far exceeds the original game’s performance when it launched back in 2018.
The game’s success is particularly meaningful for Embracer Group, which has been navigating through difficult financial waters recently. As reported in Embracer’s latest earnings call, the company has been forced to downsize its portfolio, sell studios, and lay off employees following the collapse of an important funding deal. In this context, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s strong performance provides a welcome bright spot.
The game’s sales trajectory has been remarkable from the start, with selling 1 million copies within its first 24 hours after launch. This impressive performance suggests that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has found a strong audience across multiple platforms, though specific console sales figures haven’t been disclosed.
Critics have responded positively to the game as well. On Metacritic, it holds a strong score of 88 from 59 reviews for PC, while 96% of critics recommend it on OpenCritic. On Steam, 92.5% of 45k reviews are positive.
Road ahead, Warhorse Studios recently announced plans to bring mod support to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 via Steamworks. “Bohemia is about to get even more exciting,” the developers teased, although they haven’t specified when exactly this feature will become available.
This level of success arrives at a critical time for Embracer Group. According to their financial reports, the company saw a 3% year-over-year decline in net sales for Q3 FY2025, with PC and console game revenue falling by 23%. However, other divisions, like entertainment and services, showed growth with a 19% increase year-over-year.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launched on February 4, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. With its strong initial performance and planned post-launch content, including free updates like horse racing and a hardcore mode, plus three paid expansions, the game appears well-positioned to continue generating substantial revenue for Embracer Group in the coming years.
