Soul Assembly, the UK-based developer known for games like Just Dance VR and Drop Dead: The Cabin, has announced layoffs affecting 15% of its workforce. According to UploadVR, the redundancies impact various departments, including animation, marketing, quality assurance, and artistic roles.

In an official statement, CEO David Solari explained, “This decision was taken to ensure the studio is aligned with the requirements of our upcoming projects. We are providing support to the affected team members as they transition to new opportunities and thank them for their contributions. This step was necessary to position the company for future success during a challenging time for the gaming industry.”

Soul Assembly, established in 2022 after spinning off from Pixel Toys, is known for its contributions to VR gaming. Its portfolio includes titles like Warhammer 40K: Battle Sister and Drop Dead: Dual Strike. The studio has also ventured into mixed reality with innovations like Drop Dead: The Cabin’s Home Invasion mode and Soul Spire for Apple Vision Pro.

While the exact number of employees affected hasn’t been disclosed, Insider Gaming estimated the range from 11 to 20 employees.

This announcement comes at a turbulent time for the gaming industry, which has faced significant layoffs in recent years. In 2024 alone, nearly 16,000 jobs were lost across the industry. As of January 2025, nearly 200 layoffs have already been reported including in major game studios like Rocksteady and Microsoft.
