Ted Price, the founder and president of Insomniac Games, has announced his retirement from PlayStation after more than three decades in the gaming industry. Price, known for leading the development of hit franchises like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance, confirmed his decision in a statement on Sony’s website. His departure marks the end of an era for Insomniac, but he assured fans that the studio remains in a strong position for the future.
New Leadership at Insomniac
In a follow-up PlayStation Blog post, Insomniac revealed its new leadership structure. Ryan Schneider, Jen Huang, and Chad Dezern will take over as co-studio heads, ensuring continuity and stability as the company moves forward. Price expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating, “There is no way that I would ever consider handing the reins to a team I didn’t trust to take care of Insomniacs and lead us to even greater heights. Chad, Jen, and Ryan are that team.”
Schneider, who started at Insomniac during the PlayStation 2 era, has played key roles in franchise strategy and studio relations. Huang, the studio’s chief financial officer, has overseen the release of 12 games over the past eight years. Meanwhile, Dezern, a longtime Insomniac veteran, has served in multiple creative roles, including art director and head of creative.
Reflections on a Legacy
Price shared that he made the decision to step down last year, believing it was time to let others shape Insomniac’s future. “After over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team,” he explained. He praised the dedication of Insomniac’s staff and expressed gratitude for the support from fans over the years. “Working side by side with Insomniacs for so many years has been a gift that I’ll cherish for the rest of my days.”
The new leadership team echoed Price’s sentiments in a joint statement, reassuring fans that the studio will continue making the games they love while prioritizing the well-being of their employees. “Thanks to Ted’s guidance and leadership, we are ready to help Insomniac thrive long into the future,” they said.
