The retro-inspired first-person shooter Selaco has sold over 100,000 copies within its first six months of Early Access release.
Developed by Altered Orbit Studios, this achievement far surpasses the studio’s initial expectations, as they originally aimed to sell 25,000 copies in the first year. “Our goal was to hit 25,000 in the first 12 months. Somehow, we managed to achieve 4x that amount in just half the time. We went without a publisher, placing all our faith in the game itself, and our community to help spread the word,” the developers shared on X.
Drawing inspiration from iconic games like Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, and F.E.A.R., the game features thrilling action set pieces, smart AI, destructible environments, and a compelling narrative. Players assume the role of Dawn, an ACE Security Captain, tasked with uncovering the dark secrets of the Selaco space station while facing relentless adversaries.
Currently available on Steam Early Access at $24.99, Selaco is fully Steam Deck Verified and supports native Linux systems. The game has received widespread acclaim, boasting overwhelmingly positive reviews on both Steam and Metacritic. Fans and critics alike have praised its polished gameplay, attention to detail, and immersive experience.
Adding to its growing list of accolades, Selaco was recently crowned the IndieDB Indie of the Year 2024. It triumphed over other popular titles, including Palworld, Balatro, and Hades II.
Looking ahead, Altered Orbit Studios promises more updates and expansions to enhance Selaco’s campaign, keeping players excited for what’s next.
