The wizarding world of Hogwarts Legacy is expanding as developer Avalanche Software officially opens the door to modding on January 30. This update introduces the highly anticipated PC modding feature, empowering players to shape their own magical adventures. With the release of the Creator Kit and the integration of mods via CurseForge, the game is set to offer limitless possibilities for customization and creativity.
Players on Steam and Epic Games Store can download this update to access mods directly from the game’s main menu. To use this feature, players must link their Steam or Epic Games Store accounts to a Warner Bros. Games account.
The collaboration with CurseForge makes it simple for creators to develop, publish, and manage mods. The Creator Kit, available for free on the Epic Games Store, allows modders to design custom assets and introduce gameplay enhancements, such as new dungeon challenges, character cosmetics, and even broom replacements. These mods can then be uploaded to the CurseForge platform for review and inclusion in the game.
Community Manager Chandler Wood highlighted the team’s dedication to ensuring a seamless modding experience. “We’ve been working closely with mod creators to prepare exciting content for players from day one,” Wood shared. This collaboration promises a robust selection of mods at launch, including the “Dungeon of Doom,” which features thrilling combat scenarios and hidden secrets.
A key aspect of the update is accessibility. Players familiar with other modding platforms, such as Nexus Mods, will find the new in-game mods library intuitive. The library includes mod descriptions and a simple installation process, eliminating the need for third-party websites. However, all mods must comply with strict moderation policies, ensuring they remain free for everyone and adhere to copyright guidelines.
Modding brings renewed excitement to Hogwarts Legacy. For many single-player games, replayability diminishes once the story is complete. With modding support, players can continually discover fresh content, from quirky cosmetics like magical hairstyles to dynamic gameplay changes, such as challenging new enemies or imaginative flying options.
Since its release in February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 30 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling games of the decade. This new modding feature adds a significant layer of replay value, keeping the community engaged while building anticipation for Hogwarts Legacy 2, which Warner Bros. Games has identified as a top priority.
Although modding enhances creativity, it isn’t without concerns. For instance, Larian Studios recently celebrated 100 million mod downloads for Baldur’s Gate 3, while TeamKill Media avoided PC release for its upcoming game Code Violet, citing worries over “vulgar” modifications of characters.
