Veteran Capcom game director and producer Hideaki Itsuno has announced his departure from the company after more than 30 years of service.

He announced his exit in an X post on August 31, thanking fans for their support. He wrote:

“At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and 5 months. Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters.”

Itsuno joined Capcom in 1994, starting his career as a director with Star Gladiator and Rival Schools.

As his career progressed, he took on more significant projects, directing popular games such as Power Stone, Devil May Cry 3, 4, and 5 as well as Dragon’s Dogma 1 and 2.

Additionally, he was involved in producing several other notable Capcom projects, including Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Capcom Fighting Collection 2.

His latest release, Dragon’s Dogma 2, received critical acclaim with an impressive 86 Metacritic score. The game was also a commercial success, ranking as the 8th highest-grossing game on Steam earning $108 million in the first half of the year.

After leaving Capcom, Itsuno revealed he’s working on a new project with a new team. While he did not specify whether this project is under the banner of another company or his own venture, he shared his excitement for what lies ahead.

“From September, I will start developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far. Please stay tuned for my next creation.”

We wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing more successful creations from him in the near future.
