Hazelight Studios, the acclaimed developer behind A Way Out and It Takes Two, has officially announced its next game, Split Fiction. Published once again under Electronic Arts’ EA Originals label, the game is set to launch on March 6, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms, including Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games Store.

Founded in 2014, Hazelight Studios has earned global recognition for crafting innovative cooperative experiences. Its previous title, It Takes Two, not only bagged the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2021 but also won Best Family Game and Best Multiplayer Game. With over 20 million copies sold since its release, the game solidified Hazelight’s reputation as a pioneer in storytelling-driven co-op gameplay.

A Bold New Co-op Adventure

Split Fiction promises to continue Hazelight’s legacy of immersive co-op adventures. Designed exclusively for two players, the game blends elements of fantasy and sci-fi, offering a seamless transition between diverse worlds. Players can expect missions ranging from escaping supernovas to engaging in quirky dance-offs against a monkey. Other intriguing activities include riding gravity bikes, fighting villainous cats, and navigating sandshark chases.

One of the standout features of Split Fiction is the studio’s signature Friend’s Pass system, allowing two players to share one copy of the game for online play. This time, Hazelight is introducing cross-platform multiplayer support, a first for the studio, alongside traditional local split-screen co-op.

Meet the Protagonists: Mio and Zoe

The story follows Mio and Zoe, two writers specializing in sci-fi and fantasy novels, respectively. Trapped inside the worlds they created, the duo must collaborate to reclaim their creative legacies. As they journey through their fantastical settings, players can expect heartfelt storytelling, emotional depth, and the signature character development that Hazelight is known for.

A Highly Anticipated Reveal

The official reveal of Split Fiction took place at The Game Awards 2024, an event where Josef Fares, Hazelight’s charismatic founder, is a familiar presence. Fares had previously teased the game on social media, building anticipation for the grand announcement.

According to reports from reliable sources, including Dealabs’ billbil-kun, the game was initially leaked ahead of its announcement. However, the official confirmation at The Game Awards put all speculation to rest.
