Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has unveiled its earnings results for Q1 2025.
During the presentation, CEO Strauss Zelnick highlighted Rockstar’s achievements over the past quarter, covering April 1 to June 30.
GTA 6 Still on Track for a Fall 2025 Release
Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is still on schedule for a Fall 2025 release, according to Take-Two Interactive (Thanks RockstarIntel).
In a previous report (Q4 of 2024), Take-Two had narrowed down the launch window for GTA VI to Fall 2025 from “only 2025” from the trailer.
Although they have not provided an exact release date for the game this time, they reaffirm their confidence that Rockstar Games will meet this timeline.
Grand Theft Auto V Reaches Milestones Amid Slowing Sales
While anticipation builds for GTA 6, its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, continues to make waves:
- GTA V has surpassed an incredible milestone of 200 million copies sold worldwide.
- The entire Grand Theft Auto series has now sold over 430 million copies, increasing by 5 million in just the past three months.
- GTA V was the most downloaded PS5 game in June, thanks to the Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC.
- In Europe, GTA V secured the second-best selling position across all platforms when combining disc and digital sales.
However, there are signs that GTA V’s meteoric sales trajectory may be slowing down. The game typically sells an average of 5 million copies per month, but recent figures suggest a slight decline compared to previous periods.
CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed satisfaction with GTA V’s performance last quarter, acknowledging that it exceeded expectations.
GTA Online Roar After DLC
GTA Online, the multiplayer component of GTA V, also performed well this quarter:
- The game “surpassed projections” due to the popularity of the Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC.
- GTA+, the subscription service for GTA Online, has seen strong double-digit growth in new members compared to last year.
However, Take-Two anticipates a potential decline in the future.
Red Dead Redemption Sales Near 100 Million
While GTA takes center stage, Rockstar’s other flagship title, Red Dead Redemption 2, continues to impress:
- RDR2 sold an additional 3 million copies in the last three months, bringing its total to over 65 million copies worldwide.
- The entire Red Dead series has now sold over 91 million copies, moving closer to the 100 million mark.
- RDR2 was the second most-downloaded PS4 game in North America for three consecutive months, despite being six years old.
The Wild West saga has more to look forward to in upcoming months:
- A re-release of the original Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
- Rumors suggest a potential PC port, though Rockstar has remained silent on this matter.
What’s Next for Take-Two Beside GTA6?
Grand Theft Auto VI is undoubtedly the big one, but Take-Two has many projects in the pipeline. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed ambitious plans for the future, including:
- 15 “immersive core” games
- 1 independent game
- 5 mobile releases
- 3 remasters over the 2026 and 2027 financial years
Additionally, Civilization VII is set to release at the end of the current fiscal year, meaning by March 31, 2025.
Despite recent industry challenges, Zelnick remains confident in Take-Two’s ability to deliver hit games and outperform the competition.
