GOALS, an up-and-coming esports football game, is set to host its inaugural Women’s Community Cup.
Scheduled to kick off on August 9th, this tournament offers players the chance to compete for a significant prize pool of $2,500.
The 1v1 format of the tournament will pit players against each other in intense, skill-based matchups.
The tournament aligns with GOALS’ ambition to empower women in esports, foster diverse talent, and create professional opportunities for women in efootball.
What is GOALS?
GOALS is an exciting new esports football game that’s currently in the early stages (pre-alpha) of development.
It was announced in 2021 by a Stockholm-based team with big ambitions to challenge popular titles like FIFA and eFootball.
The game has already attracted a lot of attention and financial backing, securing nearly $40 million in funding so far. This strong support shows the high hopes and confidence in GOALS.
GOALS is the brainchild of Andreas Thorstensson, who co-founded the well-known European esports organization SK Gaming. His experience and vision are helping to shape this promising game.
In 2023, the development team also included industry experts Ebba Ljungerud (ex-Paradox Interactive) and Oskar Gabrielson (ex-EA DICE). Their expertise is set to enhance the game’s development.
The game is progressing well, with a play-test phase announced in July 2024. While the official release date is still a mystery, GOALS is expected to be released soon on major platforms like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. With an esports scene in the works, it’s also expected to be available on PC.
The game offers both 1v1 and 5v5 game modes, making it appealing for both solo players and teams.
GOALS will be free-to-play when it launches. This is great news for virtual football fans, especially since FIFA and eFootball have been criticized for their reliance on micro-transactions. A free-to-play model makes GOALS an appealing alternative.
What Is More?
GOALS isn’t stopping at a single tournament. The company has committed to running at least two women’s community tournaments annually, ensuring ongoing support and visibility for female gamers.
The company is also dedicated to creating women-only playtesting opportunities and has established a women’s Discord server to foster a supportive community.
Players interested in participating in the cup can sign up through the tournament platform Battlefy.
