Gears of War: E-Day Brings Together Veteran Studios for Prequel Development

Gears of War E-Day

The highly anticipated next chapter in the Gears of War franchise has gained additional firepower with People Can Fly joining The Coalition as co-developer. This collaboration marks a significant return for the Polish studio, which previously worked on multiple entries in the series, including serving as the lead developer for Gears of War: Judgment and a co-developer on the first three titles.

Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the franchise, highlighting the opportunity to build upon the series’ renowned action and storytelling elements. “This opportunity allows us to expand on the intense action and deep storytelling fans adore,” Wojciechowski stated.

The Coalition’s studio head Mike Crump reinforced this sentiment, emphasizing that E-Day aims to capture the “authentic essence” of what makes Gears of War special. “Gears of War: E-Day isn’t just another game; it’s a tribute to what makes the series special. Partnering with People Can Fly, who have a long-standing connection to this franchise, ensures authenticity and quality,” Crump added.

Adding to the excitement, original voice actors John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro are confirmed to reprise their roles as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. This announcement came during the series’ 18th anniversary celebration last November, accompanied by a photo of the reunited actors.

E-Day will serve as a prequel to the original trilogy, focusing on the initial Locust invasion of Emergence Day. It features younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, joining the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG), to fight against the Locust Horde. The game aims to return to the series’ horror roots, blending intense combat with emotional storytelling.

People Can Fly, established in 2002, brings considerable experience to the project. The studio, known for titles like Bulletstorm and Painkiller, has a history with the franchise dating back to the original trilogy. After a period under Epic Games ownership, the studio returned to independence and continues to maintain its distinctive identity in game development.
