The 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC) wrapped up successfully, bringing together nearly 30,000 attendees at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The event was packed with over 1,000 speakers and 750 sessions, including workshops, roundtables, and networking opportunities, giving industry professionals plenty to learn and discuss.

One of the standout additions this year was GDC Nights, an after-hours event featuring TV, movies, comedy, and video game-related activities. It was a hit, drawing more than 6,000 attendees who enjoyed screenings, discussions, and live performances, adding a fresh, fun twist to the conference experience.

A major highlight of GDC 2025 was the Game Developers Choice Awards, where Balatro stole the spotlight, winning Game of the Year, Best Debut, Best Design, and the Innovation Award. Meanwhile, the Independent Games Festival Awards recognized Consume Me with the Seumas McNally Grand Prize for Best Independent Game.

According to reports from PocketGamer.biz, this year also saw an increase in exhibitors, jumping from 325 in 2024 to 400. The growing presence of developers, publishers, and tech providers highlighted GDC’s role as a key hub for the gaming industry.

GDC event director Stephenie Hawkins acknowledged the challenges developers face today but emphasized the conference’s value in fostering connections and new ideas.

“The past few years have been tough for game developers worldwide, but we’re proud that GDC continues to serve as a beacon. We look forward to welcoming everyone again next year and hope the insights gained here will inspire new, groundbreaking projects.”

Looking ahead, GDC 2026 is set to take place at the Moscone Center from March 9 to March 13, 2026. Speaker submissions will open in July 2025, kicking off preparations for another exciting gathering of gaming professionals.
