Games Workshop Celebrates Best Half-Year Ever, Powered by Space Marine 2’s Success

Games Workshop has posted extraordinary financial results for the six months (H1) leading up to December 1, 2024, with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 emerging as the star performer in their portfolio. The company’s success shows how a single hit game can transform a company’s financial outlook.

Record-Breaking Numbers

The company achieved impressive growth across all key metrics:

  • Total revenue reached £299.5 million ($366.2 million), up 20.9% from last year
  • Operating profit soared to £126.1 million ($154.1 million), marking a 33.4% increase
  • Core business revenue hit £269.4 million ($331.2 million), growing 14.3%

Space Marine 2’s Impact

The standout factor in Games Workshop’s success was its IP – Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, developed by Saber Interactive:

Licensing Revenue Explosion

The licensing segment showed particularly impressive growth:

  • Revenue jumped to £30.1 million ($36.8 million), a 2.5x increase
  • Operating profit from licensing grew 152% to £28 million ($34.2 million)
  • Earned income surged from £5.9 million to £26.1 million, a 4.4x increase

Looking Forward

The success has created a ripple effect throughout the industry, with PulluP Entertainment, the parent company of Space Marine 2’s publisher Focus Entertainment, also reporting significant growth, including a 331% year-over-year increase in Q2 revenue and 132.7% year-over-year increase in Q3 revenue.

While no official announcement has been made about a sequel, the game’s commercial success and story ending strongly suggest that Saber Interactive and Games Workshop might continue their partnership. CEO Kevin Rountree has dubbed this the company’s best half-year performance to date, setting a new benchmark for future growth.
