Team Falcons, owned by Saudi Arabia, emerged victorious at the Esports World Cup (EWC) Free Fire World Series (FFWS) 2024 in Riyadh.
The tournament featured 18 top teams competing for a $1 million prize pool from July 10 to 14.
Despite a rocky start in the group stages, Team Falcons made an impressive comeback in the Grand Finals and won the first Free Fire Trophy at EWC.
Let’s dive into details, formats, prize distribution, Final standing, and much more.
Team Falcons Journey at FFWS 2024
Team Falcons’s performance in the Knockout Stage and Points Rush Stage was underwhelming, to say the least.
During the Knockout Stage, the 18 teams were split into three groups, competing in a round-robin format over 18 matches. Team Falcons, placed in Group C alongside formidable teams like Gaimin Gladiators and Twisted Minds, ended up in third position with 188 points, trailing behind LOUD and Buriram United Esports.
In the Points Rush stage, which determines the head start points for the Grand Finals, Team Falcons is able to only secure one bonus point. This put them at a disadvantage compared to Buriram United Esports, who entered the Grand Finals with soli eight head start points.
Despite this, Team Falcons pulled off a spectacular comeback in the Grand Finals. The format consisted of six rounds, and it was in these high-stakes games that Team Falcons truly shined. They dominated the first and sixth rounds, which proved key in their overall victory. The Grand Finals concluded with Team Falcons amassing 106 points, narrowly beating Indonesian powerhouse EVOS DIVINE by 7 points and clinching the $300,000 prize along with 1000 Club points.
With two wins Team Falcons is now toping in the club championship ($7 million prize.) with two trophies (COD Warzone in week 1) and a total of 2600 Club points.
Thai player Moshi, representing Buriram United Esports, was named the MVP of the tournament, earning $50,000 for his outstanding performance.
What Makes This Victory Even More Special?
Beyond the substantial cash prize and Club points, Team Falcons has secured a coveted slot at the World Series (FFWS) Global Finals later this year.
This opportunity, as announced by the game’s developer Garena, adds another layer of prestige to their victory and sets the stage for even more intense competition in the future.
