Fortune’s Run, a sci-fi shooter RPG that gained praise for its immersive gameplay and gritty, post-apocalyptic aesthetic, now faces an uncertain future. The game’s creator, known as Dizzie on Steam, recently announced that she has been sentenced to prison for three years due to past actions “before” becoming a game developer.

In a heartfelt post on the game’s Steam page, Dizzie explained the circumstances leading to her sentence. “I’ve been sentenced to prison for the next three years,” she wrote. “My case is about five years old, and I’ve been going through the legal process the entire time I’ve been working on this. It’s a shame, but these are the consequences of my actions.” She acknowledged her violent past, expressing regret but also emphasizing the inevitability of the outcome.

Fortune’s Run has been available in early access for over a year, priced at $20. It holds a 90% rating on Steam, based on just over 100 user reviews, and has been praised for its mix of classic PC gaming elements inspired by titles like Deus Ex and Thief. Despite its niche audience, the game was considered a potential sleeper hit, with a unique blend of mission-based gameplay and retro-punk visuals reminiscent of early Fallout games.

Dizzie’s incarceration leaves the game’s future in limbo. While she reassured fans that Fortune’s Run isn’t “totally dead,” updates and development are now on indefinite hold. Dizzie expressed hope that she might resume work on the game after her release. “I should be able to afford rent once I get out, so there’s a chance that if you wait a few years, I’ll be able to cap off the release,” she shared.

Before stepping away, Dizzie released one final update for the game. This patch includes new missions, puzzles, story sequences, and significant bug fixes. However, it also breaks existing save files, and no quality assurance testing has been conducted. The game remains available for purchase on Steam, but communication from the developer may cease for the foreseeable future.
