The prestigious Esports Awards 2024 announced its winners across various categories, marking another milestone year in competitive gaming.
For the first time, the awards ceremony was split into two parts, with the first held at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in August, and the second part taking place in Los Angeles, California on November 21, 2024.
The second part of the awards featured Pro, Entertainment, Industry, Creative, and On-Air Categories, showcasing the breadth of talent across the esports ecosystem.
Standout Winners
Faker: The Undisputed King of Esports
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the legendary mid-laner from T1, solidified his reign as one of the greatest esports athletes by winning the Esports PC Player of the Year award for the second year in a row.
Known as the “Unkillable Demon King,” Faker has been a cornerstone of competitive League of Legends since his debut in 2013. This is why Riot Games celebrated his illustrious career by inducting him into the Hall of Legends (akin to the Hall of Fame) earlier this year.
In 2024, Faker showed exceptional skill and leadership, guiding T1 to yet another League of Legends World Championship title and securing victories in regional tournaments. With five LOL Worlds Championships and numerous MVP titles, Faker remains the gold standard in esports.
T1: Dominating League of Legends Esports
T1, Faker’s team, was crowned Esports Team of the Year for their remarkable achievements in 2024. The team had an incredible run, consistently performing at the top level in the LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea) and Worlds 2024.
T1’s synergy, innovative gameplay, and ability to adapt under pressure were key to their success. Under the guidance of coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun, another award nominee, T1 showcased why they remain a powerhouse in the esports world.
Team Falcons: A Meteoric Rise to Glory
Saudi Arabia-backed Team Falcons has had an incredible run this year leading them to win the Esports Organisation of the Year. This year, they emerged as the top team at the first-ever Esports World Cup 2024, thanks to their strategy of signing top-tier players across games like Dota 2, Warzone, and Rocket League.
Mortal: India’s Esports Ambassador
Naman “Mortal” Mathur, India’s biggest gaming icon, made history by winning back-to-back the Esports Content Creator of the Year award. As a co-founder of S8UL Esports, he has been instrumental in building India’s esports ecosystem.
In 2024, Mortal continued to engage millions of fans with entertaining and educational content, leveraging platforms like YouTube (7 million+ subscribers) and Instagram (5.3 million followers).
Mortal expressed his gratitude, saying, “This award isn’t just mine; it belongs to every fan, teammate, and supporter who believed in me and Indian esports.” His success highlights India’s growing influence on the global gaming stage.
Worlds 2023: Event of the Year
The League of Legends World Championship 2023 earned the title of Esports Live Event of the Year. Featuring the best teams from across the globe, Worlds 2023 delivered some of the most intense and memorable matches in League of Legends history.
The tournament shattered viewership records, attracting over 6.4 million peak viewers during the finale, and securing its place as the most-watched esports event in history, according to esports charts.
