Epic Games Store Hits New Milestone with Almost 300 Million PC Players

Epic Game Store

Epic Games Store reported a significant increase in its user base and gameplay hours over the past year. According to official reports by Epic Games, 295 million PC players used the store in 2024, which is 25 million more than in 2023. In addition, Epic’s cross-platform account base grew to 898 million, an increase of 94 million users compared to the previous year. This growth was accompanied by a notable rise in playtime, as players collectively spent 2.68 billion hours gaming on the platform.

The Year in Review report highlights that Epic Games Store not only attracted more users but also expanded its game catalog. The store added 1,100 new titles, thanks to the success of its Self-Publishing Tools and opt-in programs that empower developers to keep 100 percent of their net revenue during the first six months after release. This expansion provides gamers with a wider selection of games to choose from and opens new revenue opportunities for developers. As a result, the store’s overall catalog now exceeds 4,000 games.

The report also emphasizes the success of the Free Games Program, which has been running for five consecutive years. Through 89 giveaways, players were able to add more than $2,000 worth of quality PC titles to their libraries. This program is now expanded to mobile platforms in 2025, offering more free games to users and further enhancing the store’s appeal.

Daily and monthly user metrics also showed interesting trends during the year. While peak Daily Active Users (DAU) reached a high of 37.2 million, the average DAU increased by 6 percent to 31.5 million. Similarly, the average Monthly Active Users (MAU) grew by 6 percent to 67.2 million, even though the peak MAU saw a slight drop from 75 million to 74 million. These statistics suggest that while the highest number of active users in a single month was marginally lower, overall user engagement continued to improve steadily.

In addition to user growth and increased gameplay hours, player spending on the Epic Games Store also made headlines. Third-party game spending reached $255 million in 2024, although this figure reflects revenue from Epic’s native payment solution and does not include sales made via third-party payment options. Total spending on both Epic’s own games and third-party titles climbed to $1.09 billion, marking a 15 percent increase over the previous year.

As per the reports by Epic Games, the most popular games on the store in terms of player spending and engagement include titles such as Genshin Impact, Rocket League, Honkai Star Rail, GTA 5, and Fortnite. These legacy games continue to drive significant traffic and contribute to the overall success of the platform.

Epic Games also addressed developers directly by reinforcing its commitment to supportive revenue-sharing models and flexible payment solutions. The company reiterated its philosophy of “mutual success” by stating, “When you succeed, we succeed.” This sentiment is underscored by the continued growth in third-party game-time, which rose from 2.41 billion hours in 2023 to 2.68 billion hours in 2024—a year-over-year increase of 11 percent.

Furthermore, Epic announced that its Now on Epic program will be extended until January 31, 2026, and will now include mobile games. This program, along with Epic First Run, allows developers to retain 100 percent of their net revenue for the first six months after a game’s release on the Epic Games Store. The initiative is designed to empower developers by giving them more control over their revenue streams and creating a more attractive ecosystem for game launches.

Another notable development came from the ongoing collaboration with The Walt Disney Company. Exactly one year after Disney acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games and partnered on a multi-year project to create an expansive games and entertainment universe, the Fortnite x Disney collaboration event has reportedly moved into a stable build.

Looking ahead to 2025, Epic Games has ambitious plans to enhance the Epic Games Store experience for both players and developers. Upcoming features include an upgraded mobile app with an enhanced library and discovery experience, expanded self-publishing tools for mobile developerssupport for non-gaming apps, a new gifting option, and a revamped download manager for PC and Mac users. Additional improvements such as pre-loading features, an overhauled search and browsing experience, and new multi-platform social features are also in the pipeline.
