Epic Games Paid $352 Million to Fortnite Creators in 2024 with 7 Earned over $10 Million

Epic Games rewarded Fortnite creators with a total of $352 million in 2024, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023. According to the company’s ‘Fortnite Ecosystem Year in Review 2024,’ players spent 5.23 billion hours on user-created content, accounting for 36.5% of total Fortnite playtime. This reflects a 5% growth from the 4.98 billion hours recorded in 2023.

Creator Earnings and Growth

The report highlighted that 58 creators earned over $1 million from their projects with 7 of them earning over $10 million, benefiting from Epic’s expanded creator support.

The number of active creators nearly tripled, rising from 24,000 in 2023 to 70,000 in 2024.

Creator Payout Breakdown:

  • 12,909 creators earned $100+.
  • 5,358 creators earned $1,000+.
  • 1,728 creators earned $10,000+.
  • 418 creators earned $100,000+.
  • 154 creators earned $300,000+.
  • 37 creators earned $1 million+.
  • 14 creators earned $3 million+.
  • 7 creators earned $10 million+

Additionally, the number of published user-generated islands doubled, reaching approximately 200,000.

Popular franchises such as The LEGO Group, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Fall Guys integrated with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative in 2024. This expansion enabled creators to design commercial experiences using official assets, further driving engagement.

Epic also introduced several new tools to enhance the creator experience in 2024. These included the First Person Camera device, new UI tools, Proximity Chat, Persistence, Custom NPCs, and analytics improvements. These upgrades allowed creators to build more complex and immersive experiences, attracting a wider audience.

Future Developments in 2025

Looking ahead to 2025, Epic plans to roll out additional features, including the Beta launch of Scene Graph, custom items, and advanced game-building tools within UEFN. Epic will unveil more details at Unreal Fest in Orlando from June 2-5.
