EA College Football 25 has officially become the best-selling sports video game in U.S. history, surpassing NBA 2K21. In addition, it has already secured a spot among the top 50 best-selling games in U.S. gaming history.
Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and video game industry advisor at Circana, shared the news on Bluesky on December 18. While exact sales numbers weren’t disclosed, the rapid success and popularity of EA College Football 25 speak for themselves.
This achievement comes after a decade-long hiatus since EA’s last major college football game, NCAA Football 14, was released in 2013. Fans eagerly awaited the return of the franchise, and when EA College Football 25 launched in July 2024, the response was overwhelming. Within hours, hundreds of thousands of players jumped into the game, and by August, it had already claimed the title of the year’s best-selling game, dethroning Helldivers II, which was released earlier in February.
In an August report, Circana highlighted that EA College Football 25’s dollar sales in its first month alone were more than triple the lifetime sales of NCAA Football 07, the previous record-holder for the best-selling college football game.
By September, EA College Football 25 achieved another milestone by becoming the highest-grossing American football video game in U.S. history. It broke the long-standing record set by Madden NFL 07, which had been the top-performing title since 2007.
As of December 1, EA College Football 25 remains the best-selling game of 2024, outperforming major titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Helldivers II, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
It’s also important to mention that these impressive sales figures do not include copies sold as part of the Madden 25 and College Football 25 MVP bundle, which likely contributed significantly to the game’s overall financial success.
The return of college football gaming has clearly resonated with fans, and EA College Football 25’s extraordinary success highlights the lasting appeal of the franchise.
